Description of our house

we have a lovely renovated timber character home in the sought-after, affluent suburb of Bardon. We are in an elevated position surrounded by gum trees with the city lights twinkling through, very pretty at night to sit outside with a glass of wine and relax. I have a large modern kitchen w. stone benchtops, ss appliances and the best home coffee machine you've ever used! We have a clutter-free home, with pale walls, polished timber floors and plenty of natural light. Currently we have 3 bedrooms, (plans to add a 4th this winter): the largest has 3 single beds for our girls, a guest room with queen bed and master with a king bed and ensuite. We have 2 TV rooms - one for the children and one for adults, both rooms have satellite TV. The kid's TV room is also stocked with toys, craft stuff and a PC with internet access/wifi. (second gorgeous computer - iMac - available for grown ups!) Our house sits on 2000sqm so we have a huge backyard with playfort, trampoline and even a flying fox. The house is fully air-conditioned, plus wood burning oven for winter. * Also up for exchange with this house is a 2 bedroom oceanfront resort unit on the Gold Coast, more details via email. * we can also provide a car, not sure what we'll have by the year's end, currently have a Mini and BMW X5, although we always keep the big Nissan Patrol for camping trips, it's a 7 seater so handy for big families. Camping gear available too.

Our neighborhood

Bardon sits in the foothills of Mt Coot-tha, our "mountain" (which is really a big hill) but is full of great walking and mtn biking tracks, as well as picnic grounds and the larger of Brisbane's botanical gardens. the area is well known as a quiet, friendly, family suburb, yet sits just 4km from the city centre. ("posh without snobbery" is my description) Next suburb over is the trendy suburb of Paddington, noted for its cute Queenslander cottages and fabulous cafe/shopping district. Restaurants, indie art galleries, exclusive boutique shopping, a little cinema... Other major retail areas (Toowong, Indooroopilly, City, the Valley) are less than a 10min drive away. There are a number of large parks/football fields just 5 mins walk away. There are many families in this area with children, some retirees and plenty of professionals - I can introduce you to a number of instant "friends". Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary is a 10min drive away. * 1 hr north of Brisbane is the beautiful Sunshine Coast and just a bit further is the charming seaside town of Noosa: a must see for any tourist. Don't forget Australia Zoo, under 1hr drive. * 1 hr south is the stunning city of the Gold Coast, our unit is right on the ocean at Coolangatta, the coast's best beach with the best surf. Byron Bay is less than an hours drive from our Cooly unit. * other tourist attractions of note: camping on the islands - Fraser, Moreton & Stradbroke Is; crazy fun at Seaworld, MovieWorld, Dreamworld, Waterworld etc.

Something about ourselves

We are Steven and Gillian in our late-30s, and we have 3 lovely little girls aged 8, 7 and 5. We are self-employed - small-property developers. We are hoping to spend our Christmas'10 school holidays in London, but are open to other locations - although we were hoping for somewhere iconic to share with our girls, and of course snow would be fun for us tropical Aussies. We also have family/friends in the UK so that's another reason to chose London - but there are so many places we want to share with the girls - surprise us! We would also consider a longer stay at any time if we were able to make schooling arrangements for the girls. We have 2 Rhodesian Ridgebacks, middle-aged dogs, who tend to lie about all day and eat all leftovers. They are lovely (outdoors) dogs and I would love to welcome someone who is happy to look after them. Our neighbours (all 3) will happily feed them if you go away for any length of time during your stay. We also have 6 chooks, again our neighbours can look after them if needed (they get paid in eggs!). We are happy to look after your pets, I think my 8 yo would love a cat... * feel free to make contact even if this year you aren't considering Australia, I think it's nice to take time to get to know each other. Our GC unit is only used by us so we could also offer that as a non-simultaneous exchange. Being renovators we (incl the girls) value the time and effort spent on homemaking, we will respect your home like it's our own.
