Subic Bay is the old US Naval Base and US ships still dock there. The base is huge (bigger than Rhode Island), mostly tropical rain forest, with fine restaurants, all sorts of water sports, musueams, clubs and bars. The Subic Bay Yacht Club (SBYC), has a huge pool, sauna, hot tubs, beauty salon, massage and gum facilities, restaurants, tennis courts, bowling, and hosts a variety of seasonal events. I race my boat in Subic Bay as well, with a friend and Captain, one Ray Wolfe (Wolfe Marine, Inc.). There are a vast number of beach resorts with pools, restaurants, etc. dotting the shoreline of Subic Bay. Three hours by boat and, your at Port Silingin which is simply beautiful. Near white sand beaches, no roads, houses, hotels, restaurants, electricity, cell phone service, or anything else. There are only a few Nepa (grass) huts on shore and you can camp on the beach, build a bonfire, fish, scuba and snorkle. The coral is wonderful, you can see down 60+ feet. There is seldom another boat anchored there. And, it's safe! The few natives who fish in the south China Sea, are very friendly and, they will visit and try to sell you fresh fish, octopus, crabs, etc. I have stayed there for up to five days at a time before heading back to the Yacht Club to ice-up. and, Port Silingin (don't be confused by the word "Port") is huge and faces West with sunsets over the South China Sea. This is a place that has everything that a bay should, namely, nothin'

Incidently, I just bought a round trip ticket for $1,050.00 from Richmond, Virginia, to Manila, Philppines. And, Manila is just three hours from Subic Bay. Traveling in the Philippines is very reasonable. For example, a 4/5 star ground floor motel room on the beach with a pool, bar and restaurant costs about $50 per night and the longer you stay the cheaper the rate. The dining is wonderful with fresh seafood specials. Dishes from around the world are available since many foreigners live there and own hotel/bar/restautants. And, everyone speaks English which is required for all school children. I've sailed the Carribean and the Islands Philippine has it beat -------hands down. Everything for your charter is provided except food and beverages a Captain and Mate. Food can be ordered before your arrival from Ray Wolfe and will be on board when you get to the Marina. Finally, the longer the charter the cheaper the rate.
